Photoshoot ideas

For my front cover I want the background to be plain so there's focus on the artist/s, in magazines i have looked at before the mise en scene is simple and focus in on a dominant woman. My photo shoot will have a empowered woman denoted in the centre of a blank backdrop.

If it's a man, i want him to wear a hat as it is urban and oversized clothes as men in the R&B genre wear oversized clothes. Also i want him to be in a crouching pose.

Clothes for photoshoot= urban clothing

All black puffer jacket and ripped jeans for the girl, Nothing too feminine, simple and casual to show she's just like us.
If there is a woman and a man the woman has to be above him to show power and authority that I've seen featured in other magazines i have looked at.

Contents page and Dps deconstruction

Image result for music magazine double page spreadThe main header

The title is "The revenge of Mark Ronson" The name Mark Ronson being the biggest font size on the page, This signifies his importance and shows he is the main focus of the article it is bold and black and simple which may imply that it has more of an appeal to men due to it's basic layout. There is also a drop cap which is large in size and is a key feature of double page spreads which i will include in my own magazine. Another key feature of a double page spread is a pull quote which is denoted in the centre of the columns of text. The pull quote anchors the Main header and the image. The pull quote suggests the narrative is about certain groups of people having something negative to say due to something or someone and the header adds the narrative suggesting he's taking revenge on something that has perhaps bruised his image and is reclaiming his image back. The main image also backs this up as it shows him being violent smashing a trumpet, he's wearing black sunglasses suggesting mystery and red socks, with red commonly connoting violence, danger and anger.

The main image

Conveys his full body and suggests a sense of relaxation or that he doesn't care or even like he's got everything in control. The all black clothing compared to the all white blank background suggests a binary opposite of good and bad. Mark's exterior is black and negative maybe evil as suggested with the pull quote saying he's "a f*cking wanker" however he is wearing white inside suggesting he is good inside. The suit represents maturity and matches the typography and theme of the magazine, however the red socks doesn't match or correlate with the theme and may also convey his wackiness or deeper personality that is less serious than the suit he is denoted to be wearing and the sunglasses.

Magazine Deconstruction

This magazine denotes Missy Eliot posing with a lot of gold jewellery looking directly into the camera. The gold jewellery connotes riches, wealth, and value. She looks like an important person in the RNB soul music industry, The mise en scene is plain white to bring focus on her. She's wearing red which signifies, danger, dominance and fierceness which may accurately represent her music. She is not being objectified which means that she gets respect, success and attention through her actual talents and no her body. Women will be interested to read about Missy Elliot due to her boss/ leader nature in a very male dominated industry. My magazine will reflect these themes of female domination and empowerment. To the left of the magazine there are other artists names such as Craig David, TLC and Eve (whom is also a very dominant woman in the industry that isn't objectified.
The mast head is bold and red

Soul/ RnB Magazine Photos

This photo has a simple blue back drop and has a classic look to it. The hoop earrings are urban and the hair is slick back and elegant to appeal to the target audience and genre. However, this may not be good as it is landscape and will not be good for a front page magazine.
This has urban clothing and denotation of puffer jackets, There is a boy and a girl however the posing and the way its framed doesn't suit the classic R&B soul theme I'm going for. This may be used as a side story image.

This sis my photo shoot idea however the posing doesn't go with my storyline so we tried again. However, I will consider this for my front cover.

This shows the woman's dominance and empowerment over the man. The woman has more masculine energy than the man and her pose connotes power. This has a lot of urban conventions and the hat the male is wearing hints the genre. I will probably use this for my front cover.

I like this shot as it can be cropped to a more suitable size and the rubbish in the background can be taken out. We are both wearing similar clothing and puffer jackets, we look in sync and like a girl group. Also the glasses denote more of a neo-soul genre similar to the next image below.
This can't be used due to the messy mise en scene. However, it is close to the genre.

I will use this for my contents.
